Retro, Suriya’s much-anticipated film directed by Karthik Subbaraj, made a strong debut with ₹19.25 crore nett at the Indian box office on May 1, 2025. The Tamil version led with ₹17.25 crore, while the Telugu and Hindi versions earned ₹1.95 crore and ₹5 lakh, respectively. The film performed well in Tamil Nadu, with cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai showing high occupancy rates, while Bengaluru also saw solid numbers.
The Telugu and Hindi markets, however, saw weaker results, with Telugu shows at 39.03% occupancy and Hindi at a low 8.55%. Early reviews are mixed, raising questions about the film's long-term performance.
