IndiGo Enters the Premium Game: Business Class Takes Off
IndiGo launches 'IndiGoStretch' business class, offering premium comfort on domestic routes. Wider seats, better meals, and priority perks onboard.

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is flipping the script on its no-frills image with a bold new move: the launch of its very own business class service, dubbed “IndiGoStretch.” After nearly two decades of dominating the low-cost market, the airline is finally catering to flyers who want a bit more room—and a lot more comfort.
Why Now?
IndiGo has long ruled the skies in India with affordable, on-time service and a massive domestic network. So why go premium now?
According to CEO Pieter Elbers:
“There is a growing demand for flexibility and comfort in the Indian aviation market. We’re simply giving our customers more choice.”
Translation? India’s rising middle class and growing business travel sector are ready to pay for premium perks.
What to Expect from IndiGoStretch
Here’s what IndiGo’s new business class is offering (at least initially):
-
Wider reclining seats with extra legroom
-
Priority check-in and boarding
-
Enhanced inflight meals
-
Dedicated cabin crew
Improved baggage allowance
The service is kicking off with the Delhi–Hyderabad route today, April 15, and will expand rapidly across key metro routes.
Fleet and Rollout Plans
-
45 aircraft are expected to be retrofitted with IndiGoStretch by the end of 2025.
-
The airline is also adding more Airbus A321XLRs to its fleet to support premium international expansion.
-
IndiGo promises this won’t affect its economy pricing—budget travelers can breathe easy.
What This Means for the Market
IndiGo’s move could shake up India’s aviation sector in big ways:
-
It creates direct competition for full-service carriers like Vistara and Air India.
-
Business flyers now have a mid-tier option between low-cost and luxury.
-
It positions IndiGo to attract international travelers more comfortably.
Bottom Line
With IndiGoStretch, the airline is showing it's no longer just about affordability—it’s about flexibility. As India continues to fly high on the global aviation map, IndiGo is making sure it has a seat for every kind of traveler.
