Pahalgam Attack: PM Modi Meets Defence Secretary, Chiefs
PM Modi holds key meetings with Defence Secretary and service chiefs following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has escalated high-level security deliberations. The assault, which rattled South Kashmir and led to the loss of 26 security personnel and civilians, has triggered an urgent and coordinated response from the Indian government and armed forces.
On Monday, PM Modi held a crucial meeting with Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, joined by Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari and Admiral R. Hari Kumar, the chiefs of the Indian Air Force and Navy respectively. The session was part of an ongoing effort to assess national security preparedness and formulate a robust counter-strategy. This follows earlier briefings provided by the service chiefs in the wake of the attack.
Government sources revealed that the discussions centered around bridging intelligence-sharing gaps, boosting surveillance in vulnerable zones such as Pahalgam and Anantnag, and improving coordination between military and paramilitary units. PM Modi stressed the need for proactive and preventive security frameworks, especially in conflict-sensitive areas of Jammu & Kashmir.
Security has also been ramped up along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) after intelligence inputs suggested potential infiltration threats. The government is evaluating plans to upgrade tactical infrastructure and deploy advanced drone surveillance in high-risk areas.
In tandem, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence are drafting additional counterterrorism protocols. These include enhanced training and support for CRPF and Jammu & Kashmir Police personnel operating in militancy-affected districts.
The Pahalgam attack has reignited concerns over the re-emergence of militant threats in the Valley and underscored the critical need for seamless inter-agency collaboration. With the Amarnath Yatra around the corner, security forces remain on heightened alert, and further strategic meetings are anticipated in the coming days.
As the nation grieves the tragic loss of lives, the government has reaffirmed its resolve to act decisively. Prime Minister Modi’s leadership during this critical period reaffirms India’s unwavering stand on national security and its commitment to defeating terrorism.
