The Chandrababu Naidu-led government is actively working to attract private universities to establish campuses in Andhra Pradesh. On Wednesday, during the state Assembly session, Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics, Nara Lokesh Naidu, introduced the Establishment of Private Universities and Regulation Second Amendment Bill-2025 to facilitate this initiative.

The Bill, which was successfully passed in the Assembly, serves as an amendment to the Andhra Pradesh Private Universities Act of 2016, a law originally designed to support the growth of private universities in the state. While presenting the Bill during the ongoing Budget Session, Minister Nara Lokesh emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering private investment in higher education by enabling universities to set up campuses in Andhra Pradesh.

Additionally, the minister informed the House that institutions like the Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology (VVIT)—a renowned engineering college in Guntur—had expressed interest in transitioning into a Brownfield University, further contributing to the state’s educational landscape.
